After being laid off in her forties as a VP and equity partner at an advertising/PR agency, Stacey realized that she had the expertise, experience, discipline and can-do spirit to work for herself. She took a big leap of faith in 2010 and it’s paid off in many ways.
Today, she is the president of SLV Public Relations, LLC, and her experience spans both the client and the agency side of public relations, publicity and social media outreach, culminating in nearly 30 years of communications expertise. Stacey has worked with many high-profile brands, and her clients have been featured nationally.
Building her client base. Fortunately, she had a few long-term clients from previous jobs who hopped on board and gave her the base she needed to move forward.
1. It takes a lot of belief in yourself and your abilities to succeed as a small business owner – there’s really no room for self-doubt as clients/customers/vendors can recognize that from a mile away.
2. Surround yourself with people who make you feel good about yourself and who are in your corner.
3. Remember it takes patience to build up your business – your success likely won’t happen overnight; only through hard work and perseverance.
